We love to ride in Longmont and after trying these rides you will too! The great thing about Longmont riding are the options: Ride East and enjoy peaceful farmland. Ride North and test yourself on more gradual climbs. Ride South and hit some great solitary dirt roads. Of course…there’s always the riding to the West – 4000’ climbs, beautiful canyons, and preserved forests. Then there’s the REAL mountain biking.
Check out the links below for some our favorite spins in Boulder County.
1.) Road Ride: "The Fruit Loops"
This ride takes you into Lyons to explore some beautiful roads that run alongside creeks and horse ranches. Do one or both loops – they’re both great. Total ride distance from Blue Sky and back is approximately 45 miles.

2.) "Road Ride: Carter Lake"
This is a very popular ride in Boulder county since it is primarily flat except for one climb up the Carter Lake reservoir. It’s a ‘lollipop’ loop where you will loop around the lake, then return the same route you came in on. Each Saturday, a ride leaves from Boulder at 10:30 that does this loop. If you plan it right, you can hook up with this group for a very fast-paced trip around the pond! Total ride distance from Blue Sky and back is approximately 62 miles.

3.) "Road Ride: Lunch Loop"
A nice short loop to get away from it all. Within 10 minutes you’ll be out of town on a good road without a ton of traffic. It’s a false flat as you go west and there’s a short steep climb on St Vrain as you hit Foot Hills parkway. When you turn onto Nelson, it’s downhill all the way home. If you want to make this a bit longer, instead of turning onto St. Vrain, keep going on 75th until you hit Hygiene Rd. This will add about 5 more miles to the ride. Total ride distance from Blue Sky and back is around 16 miles.

4.) "Road Ride: Favorite Climb"
What’s Colorado known for? The mountains! Here’s a great ride that’s close to home. This is best to do during the week or early on weekend mornings since the climb can be busy with traffic. You’ll climb S. St. Vrain up to the Peak to Peak highway. Then roll along P2P to Ward, where you will begin your descent back home. Stop in the quaint town of Ward for some refreshment if you like.
Total ride distance from Blue Sky and back is around 65 miles. You can cut off some distance by turning off P2P at Overland (which will take you through Jamestown) but be prepared for a dirt road!

5.) "Road Ride: Quick Climb"
Add some elevation to your ride by riding into Boulder for a “short”, but fun climb up Old Stage Rd. It’s pretty challenging and still a long hill by most folk’s standards – just not long compared to the other climbs in the area. You’ll return off Foothills Highway by taking Neva Rd, then 63rd to Nelson.
Total ride distance from Blue Sky and back is approximately 32 miles.

6.) "MTB Ride: Hall Ranch"
Probably the best ride in Boulder County, Hall Ranch is a Boulder Open Space Park. This means it is very well-maintained, easy to access, and well-marked. However, it’s also pretty busy. Be sure to yield to hikers, horses, and uphill riders. It has technical climbs, fun down hills, and a great loop up top to test your skills.

7.) "MTB Ride: Heil Ranch"
Another Boulder County Park trail. It’s a ‘lollipop’ ride (ride out, do the loop, ride back). It’s a bit rocky in spots, but still a great trail. Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance is building a trail that connects Heil to Hall. This will make for some nice and long off-road rides!

8.) "MTB Ride: Rabbit Mountain"
The closest mountain biking to Longmont. Rabbit MTN is a great place to get your fix, but there are not a lot of trails here. Yet another lollipop route. The loop up top (eagle wind trail) is 3 miles. The climb to it is about 1 mile.

9.) "MTB Ride: Walker Ranch"
the closest REAL mountain biking to Longmont. It’s in the mountains, so be prepared for some climbing (but it’s worth it!). The Walker Ranch loop is 8.2 miles and it includes a section where you MUST shoulder our bike as the trail takes you down and over S. Boulder Creek. It’s a great workout and test for any rider. If you REALLY want to test yourself, so Super-Walker: Ride from Boulder (or Longmont ;) up Flagstaff Rd to get to the trail, then do a loop. Flagstaff Rd. is a 7 mile serious climb. Most mortals drive (gasp) to this trail.

10.) "MTB Ride: Winter Park"
known as “The Mountain Bike Capital of the World”, Winter Park boasts 600 (yeah that’s right) of trails. They also have a very competitive summer MTB series. It’s about 1 3/4 hours away, so make a weekend of it if you can. There’s also lots of free campgrounds.
